Alex’s class room rapport was formed while teaching web design to an
internationally diverse group of high school students at The American
School In Switzerland’s summer program. He brings over three
subsequent years of industry experience as a Mechanical Project
Engineer and Manager at Edwards & Zuck, a New York based MEP
design firm. While there, he worked on a wide range of projects including
core and shell design for the International Gem Tower in Midtown
Manhattan, multiple Deloitte office sites nationwide, and multiple floors
at 200 Park Avenue. His industry experience gives him insight into the
role software plays in design process work flow.
Green design and focuses on sustainability have been key professional themes since his thesis work at the University of Virginia. He has worked on LEED certified projects in Sofia Bulgaria and throughout the United States. Most recently he has been interested in Energy Modeling and has become a Certified Energy Manager, the nation’s premier energy audit certification. Alex views BIM as the transformative technology that will facilitate improved collaboration across the design team. Rising energy cost, galvanized political will to address carbon emissions, mandates to benchmark commercial building energy consumption, and the emergence of a generation that places high value on social responsibility will drive the AEC industry to abandon a status quo attitude and strive for a future of challenging best practices to advance the art of design. The heart of that future is Building Information Modeling.
