You've had Inventor installed for a while and one day you try to launch the program but it won't open.
You might get a Windows error message such as: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly..."
or Inventor will try and launch and you get an Inventor Error Report.
Try deleting the two following folders, but before deleting make a backup of them:
Right-click and copy the folders to another location(for example the Desktop) or in the same folder as a temporary copy.
Windows Vista and 7:
- C:\Users\login_name\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Inventor Version_Number
- C:\Users\login_name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor Version_Number
Windows XP:
- C:\Documents and Settings\login_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor Version_Number
- C:\Documents and Settings\login_name\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor Version_Number
Where Version_Number is the version of Inventor that won't launch.
Restart Inventor.
If this doesn't help try deleting the following registry folder:
To open the Registry go to Start>Run>Regedit.
Before deleting the registry folder right-click on the folder and export it. Export it to the Desktop for example.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion17.0
Registry version 17.0 applies to Inventor 2013; for Inventor 2012 it will be 16.0. For older versions extrapolate the value.
If you still can't get Inventor to launch you'll have to try a repair install or a clean uninstall. See the Quick Uninstall tool for Inventor 2012-2013.
