In Civil 3D, 9 times out of 10, when we have a drawing that crashes on open, it is because LEVELOFDETAIL was accidentally enabled. This feature seems very unstable. After a couple years of occasionally having drawings crash while opening one machine, but open fine on another, we discovered this. Our solution now is to load Civil 3D, without opening your drawing (just load to default template), then run LEVELOFDETAILOFF. Then open your drawing. Although much of the above is still very relevant, we are finding this LEVELOFDETAIL setting is our problem more often than not. I do believe this is a Map/Civil 3D setting though. It may not apply to base Autocad - I can't be sure.
Just though I would add this as it has save our drawings on numerous occasions!

Hello Stefan,
Thank you for this information. I don't see this command in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP but thank you for the information as it will be helpful for our Civil customers.
Regards
Cherisse
