This Revit tip come from Nicholas Bowley from the IMAGINiT BSD Team:
I recently spent half a day helping someone pick up comments from the Architect on their project where the background in the consultants file did not display the same graphical representation in plan view as the architect. This could happen because of any number of reasons and in some cases several reasons. If this problem persists on every project, there are likely improvements that can be made to your template.
- View Range does not match
- Line-work came from an AutoCAD link which was turned off
- Category of Elements are turned off
- Etc…
In the cases where matching the architectural background is proving to be a challenge, you can try these steps to link a specific view from the architect.
- Call the architect and ask for a specific set of views in their file they want you to match.
- Go into your View Templates (hopefully) or Visibility/Graphic Overrides for every view.
- Locate the Revit Links tab
- Click the “By Host View” button under Display Settings
- Under the Basics tab, click the checkbox for “Custom”
- Click the fly-out for “Linked View” and choose the view the architect wishes you to match from the list.
- Set “Model Categories”, “Import Categories”, “View Range”, and anything else that will save you the trouble of manually trying to track down and address the problems affecting your background display.
- Do NOT set “Annotation Categories” to “Linked View”
