This AutoCAD tip comes from Nicholas Bowley from the IMAGINiT BSD Team:
Many people have taken advantage of Sheet Sets in AutoCAD since they came out in release 2005. What most people have not figure out is how to create views and view references, not to be confused with sheets.
With this workflow, titles and callouts will update automatically with sheet set and view property changes.
First create your blocks, you will need a view title and a callout block. The fields for the blocks should be using SheetSetPlaceholders with the Associate Hyperlink checked as indicated below.
View Title
ViewTitle
ViewNumber
ViewportScale
Callout
ViewNumber
SheetNumber
Assign your blocks to the sheetset by going to the Sheet Set properties. Assign your new view title and callouts in the sheet set properties.
Adding Views to Sheets
- You must have geometry in model space before the next step.
- Go to the Model Views tab in the Sheet Set Manager. Right click on the drawing you are adding a view to.
- Choose Place on Sheet
- Click in the area on the sheet you wish to place the view.
- Modify the viewport as desired.
- The View Title should have been placed automatically.
Rename and Renumber your Sheet Views
- Go to the Sheet Views tab in the Sheet Set Manager.
- Locate the view you wish to rename.
- Right click on that view.
- Choose Rename and Renumber
- Enter values for the name and number as desired.
- Regen the drawing to see your title update in paperspace.
Referencing other Sheet Views with Callouts (View can be in another drawing)
- Open the drawing/layout where you wish to place the callout.
- Go to the Sheet Views tab in the Sheet Set Manager.
- Locate the view you wish to reference with your callout.
- Right click on that view.
- Choose Place Callout Block
- Choose the callout symbol you wish to place.
- Click on screen where you wish to place that callout.
When you make PDFs or DWFs you will be able to click on the callouts and other plan references and it will take you to that sheet in your published set.
informative.
