AutoCAD 2015 Training Guide Releases
By Lisa Kemp
The AutoCAD 2015 Fundamentals and AutoCAD 2015 Update for 2013/2014 Users training guides have been thoroughly reviewed and the lecture and practice material has been improved/corrected as needed. All of the feedback that we received about the 2014 training guide has been addressed when these training guides were updated. Thanks for the feedback, it was very useful.
The AutoCAD interface has been redesigned and displays in a dark gray color scheme by default. A light gray color scheme is available and was used in the training guides so that the images are as clear as possible for printing purposes. All of the images have been replaced because of the interface changes and captions have been added where needed to further clarify the images.
The Ribbon and Status Bar have also changed. The Ribbon contains new, rearranged, and renamed tabs, some renamed panels, and modified icon images. The Status Bar has been consolidated into one bar and moved to the lower right in the interface. The coordinates and some of the icons from the 2014 version are not displayed but the Status Bar can be customized to display them. All references to the Ribbon and Status Bar have been updated in the lecture material and practices to reflect these changes.
When the software is started, the Welcome Window has been replaced with the New Tab, which provides access to creating and opening drawings and connecting to AutoCAD 360. References to the Welcome Window in the training guide have been changed to the New Tab.
The following information has been updated in the lecture material and practices.
Object selection has been revised and now includes a Lasso option, which works in both the Window and Crossing directions and enables you to select objects by drawing a shape, rather than a rectangle.
Some commands, such as Erase and Rotate, now display an icon called a badge at the crosshairs, indicating that you are in a specific command. A line also displays connecting the preview to the base point and the original objects are grayed out.
Blocks, annotation styles, and tables are now displayed in galleries in the Ribbon, which are drop-down lists showing previews of the blocks, etc. You can drag and drop objects from the gallery to the drawing.
Model space viewports can now be modified and added to by dragging their boundaries and the active viewport displays a blue border.
In the AutoCAD 3D Modeling and Drawing training guide, a topic will be added about the new isometric drawing environment, which switches the grid and crosshair display to the required isometric view so that you can draw in that orientation more easily. Additionally, in Geographic Location, maps are accessed using Autodesk 360 and online maps. When using the Online Maps you have the option to download the map to be able to use it offline. The map topic and practice in the training guide will be updated to reflect this change.
In the AutoCAD Update for 2013/2014 Users the Point Cloud lecture material and practice have been changed because point clouds can no longer be created in the software. You have to use the Autodesk Recap software to create them and AutoCAD now only works with the .RCP and .RCS file formats. The icons for commands that work with Point Clouds have been moved to different tabs and renamed and point cloud contextual tab has changed to suit the enhancements to the software.
I hope that you like the changes to the 2015 training guides.
