Every year I enjoy going to Autodesk University the week after Thanksgiving to share my knowledge of how to be more efficient on Autodesk software. This year, I unfortunately did not make it there. A family emergency prevented me from making the short drive from Salt Lake City, UT to Las Vegas, NV. In order to make it up to the 150 people registered for my class, I have made a recording of the class that I planned on teaching called, "Let's Hit the Road Jack - A BIM Workflow for Roads & Highways". Even though the title indicates that this class is for road and highway engineers, it really is a good example of an infrastructure project workflow for anyone working with Civil 3D.
The class walks you through a workflow that starts the conceptual design and preliminary design using Autodesk InfraWorks 360. Then I show you how to move the preliminary design into AutoCAD Civil 3D and NavisWorks for the detailed design. Finally, I show you how to round-trip your work back into Autodesk InfraWorks 360 and Autodesk 3ds Max Design for better visual communication.
