I am so excited about the new AutoCAD® 2016 software being released this week, as it means that this week is also the release of ASCENT’s AutoCAD 2016 training guides!
The AutoCAD® 2016 Update for AutoCAD® 2015 & 2014 Users training guide covers the new and enhanced features that have been introduced in the AutoCAD 2016 and 2015 software releases. We have been working on this training guide over the last few months and I am really excited to share some of the details. The topics covered range from general improvements and command enhancements, to 3D modeling and collaboration enhancements.
Here’s a summary of just a few of the changes found in this year’s release:
General Interface Components
Start Tab
The Welcome Window, which previously opened when the software was launched, has been replaced by the Start Tab. The Start Tab remains open while you work on other drawings, making it easy to create a new drawing, open existing drawings, or learn something new through the Learn frame.
Tab and Panel Enhancements
File Tabs
When multiple drawings are open, you now have the ability to close multiple drawings at once (rather than closing them individually) by right-clicking on any file tab at the top of the drawing window. These commands are now also available at the command line for those that find it more efficient to type commands.
Layout Tabs
When repositioning layout tabs in files that have many layouts, you can now drag the tabs into positions that are currently hidden by the overflow menu. Tabs automatically scroll to show hidden layouts, enabling you to easily reorganize the layouts.
Status Bar
The Status Bar now wraps automatically to a second row if the software window shrinks or if additional buttons are displayed in the Status Bar.
Dimension Enhancements
Dimensions can be added by using a general dimension command or by using commands specific to the type of dimension being added. The general dimension command automatically determines the type of dimension to use based on the object or point you have selected.
This means that you can use a single command to add various dimensions, including linear (horizontal or vertical), aligned, angular, radial, etc. After placing a required dimension you remain in the Dimension command, enabling you to add additional dimensions without needing to re-launch the command. We dedicated an entire chapter in the Update training guide to this topic to help you learn all the great changes in dimensions.
Print to PDF Enhancements
When exporting drawing files to .PDF, you can now control the quality of vectors and rasters, and also access merge controls (which allows lines to merge or overwrite each other). You are also able to include information about data, such as: layer information, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and fonts.
There are just too many new features to list here, so make sure you get your copy of the AutoCAD® 2016 Update for AutoCAD® 2015 & 2014 Users training guide today!
We also have our popular AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT 2016 Fundamentals training guide ready for the 2016 version of the software. Stayed tuned for more from Renu on what changes have been made to this book!
