This blog shows some of the changes between the Vault 2015 (R1) and the 2016 training guides.
Note: Some of the enhancements came out in 2015 R2.
1. Training Guide Format
Formatting updates such as using a one column layout instead of two columns for exercises has been completed for easier readability and consistency with ASCENT’s other training guides.
2. Get and Check Out
In 2016, Get and Check Out are separate commands as shown below. All the text, tables and exercises that used the Get/Checkout command have been updated.
Check Out: Marks the file(s) as being worked on (checked out) but does not download a copy to your working folder.
Get: Allows you to check out and download a copy of the file(s) to your working folder as well as specify a specific revision/version.
3. Items and Bill of Materials
One of the major enhancements to the Autodesk Vault software in 2015 R2 and 2016 has been to unify the administration of all object type behaviors. An example is the administration of Lifecycle definitions. The image below shows the Lifecycles section on the left image in 2015 R1 and the section not there in the Items tab in 2016 on the right.
These Item behavior definitions were removed from the Items tab in 2016 since the Item behaviors have been consolidated in the Behaviors tab. An Item Release Process consolidated with the 2015 R1 lifecycle definitions is shown in the image below.
In the Items tab in 2016 there are new options for watermarking and for item assignment preferences as well as the new property write-back feature. Procedures associated with these new options have been documented in the Vault Professional guide.
4. Vault Thin Client
The Display settings for Vault Thin Client have been updated in 2016 and as a result have been updated in the Vault Thin Client chapter in the Vault Professional guide. As shown in the image below, the Effective revisions for released items option was removed since it’s no longer applicable and new options for displaying latest version and Bill of Materials rows have been added.
5. New Copy Design
The new Copy Design application training content has been added to the Vault Workgroup training guide. There is a lesson on Copy Design that starts with orienting you to the new interface then explains each area, shown below in red, with regards to functionality and the associated procedures. An exercise has also been added.
6. Summary of Vault Training Guides
In addition to the three “Essentials” training guides which include content for both users and administrators, we also have guides specific for Inventor and AutoCAD users only as shown in the image below. The last one listed is regarding custom courseware development where we work with clients to develop something that suits the client’s needs regarding custom processes, environment, dataset and format.
Additional information on updates to the training guides can be viewed in our webcast.
