A few months ago, we released IMAGINiT Utilities for Civil 3D 2014. Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback so far! One of the issues reported to us involved not being able to transform the Google imagery into any drawing that was based on the Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS) datum.
This issue occurs because Autodesk does not distribute the transform file needed with the installation of Civil 3D. To obtain version 2 of the Canadian National Transformation, you need to visit Geodetic Reference Systems. The National Transformation (NTv2) can be found at the bottom of the page after clicking on Desktop Applications. Unfortunately, you have to register and create a free account before you can download the file.
In the resulting ZIP file, the only file needed is the file named NTV2_0.gsb
This file needs to be copied to:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Geospatial Coordinate Systems 14.00\Canada
The next step is to configure Civil 3D to look at this transformation file. From inside of Civil 3D, type MAPCSLIBRARY at the command line:
Under the search box, type "NAD83_to_CSRS". From the resulting list, select NAD83_to_CSRS and select EDIT.
In the resulting dialog box, select -Grid Data File Interpolation from the left hand pane. Click on the "+" sign on the right and select the NTV2_0.gsb file from the step above in the Canada folder.
From this point, the work is done. Hit SAVE and exit out of all the dialog boxes. The Google imagery should import fine from this point forward into any drawings that reference a CSRS coordinate system.
Please keep the feedback coming!
