When working with a pipe network in Civil 3D, you may have run into an issue where launching the EditinSSA command results in Launching Storm and Sanitary Analysis, but the resulting importation falls without an error. Below is a possible solution to the error by removing labels in the drag-state.
First, here is an example of the issue. Starting from a Civil 3D drawing with a pipe network, we go the Analyze tab and click Edit in Storm and Sanitary Analysis.
This will open a dialog window where we select one or more of the pipe networks within our model to export.
When we click “OK”, we see the splash window for Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis as it loads. Within Storm and Sanitary Analysis, we should see the Hydraflow Storm Sewers File Import Options pop-up window. Once we select “OK” in this window, it should import our pipe networks as well as the DWG file that we were using as a background, except the process runs at though it is working properly, but instead just ends with no error.
Back within Civil 3D, notice in this example that we have multiple AEC objects with labels in the dragged state. “Dragged state” labels are the result of clicking the grip of a label and manually extending it away from an object for the sake of visibility. In this case, this is the reason why the import process failed.
Let us try to export again, but this time we will reset all dragged state labels first. Select one of the labels by itself in the dragged state. On the contextual ribbon for this label, select Reset Label to reset the label back to the default state. Repeat using the Reset Label command until all labels have returned to their default state.
Now the all labels have been reset, go to the Analyze tab and relaunch the Edit in Storm and Sanitary Analysis button. This time when we are finished, we should see the Log File Tab in Storm and Sanitary Analysis and a pop-up letting us know that the import was successful.
