I like to think I live in the 21st century and not the middle ages, fuedal Japan, or the Renaissance. So whenever I get my new copy of Inventor or work on new templates for companies, I always check their color for their drawing sheets. Out of the box, Inventor uses a Parchment type color seen here which is pretty nuetral to the eyes and doesn't make the constrast on the screen pop too much.
Call me old school, but I actually prefer a white background in my drawings representative of the paper it will actually be printed on. So how do we change the color? Is it in Color Schemes in the Applicaiton Options...no guess again. Is it individually on the Sheets themselves...no, not that micro-managed. Its actually in the Document Settings for the drawing.
Once in the Document Settings, click over to the Sheet tab. On the Colors area of this dialog you can select different colors for your sheets.
Like I mentioned before, I like the white, but I have had some users ask for different colors as well. I put some samples below to show you a few of them I have been asked to do. Once you find one you like for your standards, simply open your drawing template explicitly and change it there.
My favorite...ah, makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
For you mythbusters out there...you may have to change layer color settings (you can see I left some black here)
For you pranksters out there...or those of you comfortable with your masculinity. Maybe even run this during October for Breast Cancer awareness.

Good tip Mark,
I had to change the paper background color recently when I started using Autodesk Inventor 2012 in full production.
For some reason, the paper background OOTB looks really dark. Changing the background to white really helped.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the info! Do you might also know if it’s possible to set an image as sheet-background? I would like to use a special lay-out for my drawings. I know how to insert a picture, but I can’t lock this or anything.. Thanks! Anniek

I have not found a way to change the background to a picture. When you say layout, do you mean like a plant layout or overlay? If so then you can do this pretty easily with the Factory Design Suite package of Inventor.
