A little over a year ago, the Autodesk labs team released Project Falcon for Autodesk Alias (comes in the Product Design Suite Ultimate). They recentely overhauled the completely free Falcon solver to run as a standalone application on Windows and Mac as well as inside Inventor 2013. Immediately I found a project to try this out on; my son's cub scout pinewood derby car we are working on. This has helped him visualize the airflow around the car so we can look at possible changes in form after this digital prototype.
There are plenty of videos up at the Labs site that show how Falcon works, but here is one I did in about 10 minutes of using the tool as well as some images from the video, specifically the Ribbon toolset in use.
You have a nice Ribbon here with a set of tools to accomodate the type of simulation you want to see. You also have another set of tools for recording live interaction (kind of like a screen capture) as well as still captures of your simulation.
You can adjust many settings in the Setup and Flow Lines areas to really change what and how you are analyzing your design.
I also found that the other color styles work here as well. Don't use Monochrome or Realistic though as they will try to Ray Trace at each flow line (yikes)! I did finally find a nice use for Watercolor though. Makes these flowlines just look awesome.
Lastly, a bonus falcon, you gotta love the Rock and Roll Falcon!
