With the release of CATIA V5-6 R2015, the Hexagon tool in the Sketcher workbench has been replaced with the Polygon tool. The Polygon tool allows the user to input the number of sides they desire their shape to have. The result is an equilateral shape with the number of sides desired, ranging from three to 100.
- Click the Polygon
in the Predefined Profile sub-toolbar (a flyout in the Profile toolbar of the Sketcher Workbench)
- The Sketch tools Toolbar now displays the choice for two different types of construction circles: Circum Circle or In Circle.
Circum Circle: Construction circle is coincident to the vertices of the polygon.
In Circle: Construction circle is tangent to the sides of the polygon.
- After choosing the type of construction circle you wish to define, there are two different ways of defining the polygon.
a. Click in the sketcher window where the center of the polygon is to be placed. Then click where the radius of the polygon will be located (how large of shape that is desired). Then move your cursor clockwise or counter-clockwise around the polygon to change the number of sides your shape will have, then click your mouse.
b. Instead of choosing the size and the number of sides from moving your mouse, you can also manually enter the values in the Sketch Tools toolbar. This toolbar expands when you click the Polygon icon, and allows you to enter the Centre Point Location, Point on Circle location, Radius size, Angle of the shape, and Number of Sides.
