As the empire continues to improve their stealth technology for their next generation fighters it is imperative that your engineers investigate the radar cross section (RCS) of your aircraft. As you are aware, the RCS measures how detectable your aircraft are by the Republic’s radar. We here at Rand Simulation are able to perform this analysis using Ansys simulation tools, the best in the entire galaxy. Ansys HFSS is one of these tools, which can help in our case – it’s SBR+ solver can import your fighter CAD geometry and perform RCS for both monostatic and bistatic cases.
Setup within the tool is very streamlined. A user can define the source frequency and the angles at which the scan is performed. Simulation with SBR+ utilizes many high tech HPC capabilities including multi-core and GPU enhancement. Allowing your fleets to be simulated in a fraction of the time compared to your competition.
Just like the setup, plotting the data is very streamlined as well. We can show the RCS results as both a 2D plot and a 3D plot.
Sometimes it is difficult to visualize where and why the spikes are occurring. That is why it is also a benefit to be able to plot the RCS results on the fighter themselves.
The image above depicts a 3D image of the fighter and the overlayed cross section results. Our simulation tool shows a need for some significant areas of improvement with your designs. These improvements can be achieved through geometry changes either through the size of the fighter, or changes to the angles of certain curves within the geometry. In certain areas it may be difficult to change the geometries to improve the RCS. In these cases, there are applications of certain materials that can improve the overall RCS. Changes to geometry can be made within the Ansys Spaceclaim tools and the modifications can be quickly reimported into HFSS through the direct link.
Please note: At this time, the Ansys HFSS tool does not predict the ability of telekinetic sensitive people to detect the fighter. It is our understanding at Rand Sim that Ansys does not intend to include this capability in future tools, as intelligent microscopic life-forms remain a unique simulation challenge. If you are worried about the ability to hide your spacecraft, may we recommend using optical camouflage by designing your spacecrafts to appear as a local moon, or simply razing the planets of any overly curious parties.
