Revit Object Graphic Controls
When we consider all of the variables that can change the way elements look inside of Revit, you start to wonder what takes precedence. Object Styles, overrides, phasing, filters; which one of these are in ultimate control? Below I have outlined the hierarchy, but of course there are exceptions!
Hierarchy of graphic display of elements in a Non-Phased Project
Object Styles: Control the line color, style and pattern of elements globally in the project
Graphic overrides by element by view: Will take precedence over object styles, view filters and visibility graphics overrides applied by category
View Filters: Will take precedence over Phase Filters, but not if the element graphics have been overridden by element in the view.
Examples:
Hierarchy of graphic display of elements in a Phased Project
Object Styles: Control the line color, style and pattern of elements globally in the project.(Excluding: phased views/elements, then it defaults to the phase graphic override settings and the phase settings for the view.)
Graphic overrides by element by view: Will take precedence over object styles, view filters, visibility graphics overrides applied by category and phase filters.
View Filters: Will take precedence over Phase Filters, but not if the element graphics have been overridden by element in the view.
Phase Filters: Will take precedence over Object styles unless graphically modified by view filter or by element in the view.
