Scenario: You want a new wire type and you want it to have a dashed line.
Creating the new wire type is the easy part...
- Start the wire command
- In the properties palette, Edit Type
- In the type properties select Duplicate
- Name your new wire type
- Modify parameters as needed
- OK
Great, I have a new wire type...but how do I change the line style associated to this wire?
That's where filters come in. Since we can't tie a specific line type to the wire either through object styles or visibility graphics overrides, we have to accomplish this with filters.
To create the filter:
- Go to the View Tab
- On the Graphics panel, select Filters
- Select New (the paper with an * on it)
- Name your filter (i.e. Wire THWN Dashed)
- Set the Filter Rules as shown below
-
- OK to close the filter dialog box
To apply the filter to a view:
- Open the view you want to apply the filter to
- Type VG on your keyboard to open the Visibility Graphics dialog box
- Select the Filters tab
- Add
- Select the filter you created for the dashed wire
- Set your overrides (see example below)
- OK out of the override dialog
- OK out of Visibility Graphics
If you want to create a line pattern specifically for the dashed wire type you can do that from the Manage Tab, Additional Settings, Line Pattern
If you need to change the wire line pattern for multiple plans create a view filter for that and then apply the view filter to the other views.
