From time to time you may need to know what Autodesk serial numbers you have on a specific machine (or machines). Or maybe you're trying to find the machine that has a particular serial number so you can install the appropriate upgrade on it. Perhaps, and probably most importantly, you want to ensure you have the proper serial numbers on the proper machines (license compliance) in the event you are audited by the software manufacturer. It is not difficult finding the serial numbers, but if you have a lot of Autodesk software installed it can be very tedious.
There are a few ways to accomplish this task.
1) Launch the program and go into About AutoCAD (or About>Revit, or About>Inventor, etc) and click Product Information. This will bring up a dialog with the serial number information. You will need to do this for each and every Autodesk program you have installed.
2) Use a 3rd party utility to grab the information.
Belarc Advisor is one such tool that you can run and obtain the serial numbers for the installed programs.
You will need to download and install the Belarc Advisor from their website at:
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Once installed, run the shortcut icon on the desktop:
It will generate a web based report, click the "Software Licenses" link:
Now you will see your serial numbers:
It is that easy and it catches the ones that have been installed and you did not get a clean uninstall too!
Tools like Belarc are great if you only have a few machines to check.
3) If you're concerned about licensing compliance (and who isn't nowadays), IMAGINiT also has a service that will help you identify compliance issues. This is for the more complicated scenarios with many machines. We can help your company identify if you are compliant or not. Ask your sales rep. about our Software Asset Management (SAM) Engagement service. We use a specialized tool that grabs the information from all the computers on your network and provide a detailed report/analysis on your compliance status.
4) IT can use specialized tools to obtain this information as well, however it does not provide the compliance analysis.
If you have a large network of users then the SAM engagement is the best way to go.
