We've had a few calls now on where to find the "English" download. I will cover that but also show you how to download too.
Note: if you have not been given download permissions by your Subscription Contract Manager you won't be able to download anything.
So, you login to manage.autodesk.com (or accounts.autodesk.com) and click Products.
Scroll down to the program you want to install.
You can click the > arrow and see more options…
PLEASE do *not* click “Install now”. This will only allow you to do the install on this one machine this one time and if there is any internet hiccup you are done and have to start over. Once you do finally get it downloaded and installed you cannot go back and use that download on another machine. If you do try to use it again you will get an error “Communication failure”.
So what do we do?
Click the down arrow for “More actions”.
Select “Download now” it is fast, it is reliable, you can pause the download because it requires that you install the download manager and it is *portable* so you can copy the download to another machine or to the network share and use it to install again on another system! “Browser download” is the 2nd best option but you may end up having to download multiple large files, then extract them after they have all been downloaded.
So, once you click “Download Now” you will be prompted for the Version (2016, 2015, 2014 or 2013), the OS (Windows 64-bit or Windows 32-bit) and the language.
The language is what is a little confusing here. You click the arrow and can’t see English.
Use the scroll bar to go to the bottom to get to English. I know, I know, it doesn’t really look like a scroll bar but it does work!
Once you select the appropriate selections, click “Download Now” and you will have to install the download manager.
It should pop up with these two windows:
Select a location to download the “Download Manager” and once it’s done run it (install it).
I use Chrome and it shows the download in the lower left corner of the browser
You can just click it right there… to start the install.
Select “I Agree”, and click “Install”
It won’t take long
On my system I also have to click the “Launch Application” button.
Once it is installed it will bring up the Download Manager interface.
Just click “Ok” and let it download to the default location.
Notice: You can even Pause the download and start it again too! Nice!
It took a lot less than 2 hours, it was done within 1 hour on my system.
It also tells us a more true amount of data that is being downloaded, 4.86 GB!
Once it has finished downloading, it will automatically launch the install routine. You can exit and rename the folder to something shorter and it is portable so you can move it to a thumb drive or a dvd or a network share.
I highly recommend you keep the folder structure short as you will have install problems if it gets too long due to a Windows Registry limitation. C:\Autodesk\AutoCAD_2016_x64 is short enough that you will not bump into that particular problem.
The download folder now shows:
I’ve renamed mine to AutoCAD_2016_x64_dlm
Using the “Install Now” option shows this EXE file:
If you go into the folder when using “Download Now” you should see something like this:
And you can double click the “Setup.exe”. Note: if you are not showing extensions for Known File Types then it will not have the .exe or the .ini on those files. Double click the one that shows “application” to the right of it.
