It is important that we keep all users on the same build of Revit to avoid issues with our projects, and for Revit 2015 that is especially important.
Revit is designed to accommodate different builds, however having a user on an older build may introduce issues into the project. Updates are released to resolve a wide variety of issues, so having users on a more current update will minimize the likelihood of problems related to older updates.
Revit 2015 is a bit unique when it comes to builds and versions. With the release of the R2 version, it has definitely complicated things for a lot of users, or I should probably say for the person in charge of keeping things up to date.
Since you can't update to the R2 version after update 3 without doing an uninstall and reinstall of the Revit software, this has become more cumbersome than normal.
So I thought I would explain the basics and give you some links that will guide you to all the information you need.
Overview
First, if the version of Revit has not been updated past update 3 it is not necessary to uninstall the software.
If the version is past update 3 you will have to uninstall
How to Determine What Build You Have
Open Revit and go to the ? in the upper right corner of the software, select the dropdown and go to About Autodesk Revit 201#. In that dialog box that opens, in the upper right corner you will see the version/build number.
I have a blog on what the numbers correspond to here.
Before You Reinstall
Download the Autodesk_Revit_2015_R2.sfx.exe from subscription, if you are going to do a deployment you will also need to download this file Autodesk_Revit_2015_R2forDeployments.exe.
Updates
Update 8 includes the previous updates so you will need to apply that one if you want to be on the most current build. I have also included a link to our blog with all of the update links:
IMPORTANT
Please make sure you thoroughly review the readme for the R2 version installation since it is a bit confusing on what to do when you have various updates installed.
Where is the R2 Download?
Once you log into Autodesk Subscription, you can find that on your Autodesk Account page under Product Enhancements.
It's a bit difficult to find...so here is a screen shot of its location.
On the download page at the bottom you will find the links you need to the enhancements list, readme and installs
