This can be handy for a number of reasons either as a report or the use to import back into AutoCAD or another system.
1.) Insert a Block at the Location you need the Points.
Figure 1
2.) Under the Insert Tab select Extract Data command (EATTEXT or Dataextraction)(Drawing must be saved 1st).
3.) On the 1st screen you must either create new or use an existing Data Extraction Template (They make you do this but if you are planning on doing this again and again then this may help to create one and save it to a known location) select next.
Figure 2
4.) The next Screen wants to know what to extract from such as the Current file or Certain Objects either is fine for our purpose we will use select Objects in the current Drawing option. Select the Select objects button and select the Blocks in the file you Created for extraction and select next.
Figure 3
5.) Uncheck all of the Objects except the Block you created and select next.
Figure 4
6.) Uncheck everything to the right except Geometry and then uncheck everything in the list except position (This will give us the XYZ)select next.
Figure 5
7.) On the Refine data page at the bottom uncheck everything to get rid of extra unneeded data select next.
Figure 6
8.) On the Choose Output page select Output file to external file check and select the ... ellipsis button. Select the drop down File of type you can select whatever file type you want but I would suggest using .csv which is a comma separated file and select save then Select next.
Figure 7
9.) Select finish and the file will be created.
Now you should have a file that contains the locations of your Points.
Note:
Data Extraction Template - This is a file that contains the information to use to extract data. This can be done ahead of time to save your options for use later.
