At some point you will find it necessary to create a new material, so I have outlined the basic steps below to create a new material from one of the out of the box assets available.
You will start by going to the Materials dialog and at the bottom right you will select the drop down option to Create New Material
Identity Tab
In the Material dialog box, go to the Identity tab and name the material accordingly and fill out any other information you want associated to the material.
Appearance Tab
On the appearance tab select replace this asset
Expand the Appearance Library and go to Sitework and then double click on Grass - Bermuda, this will add it to your material. Close the Asset Browser.
Graphics Tab
On the graphics tab you can select to use Render appearance for shading, which will pull the color from the render appearance, or you can deselect that and pick a color. You can also add a surface and cut pattern if desired. If you add a surface or cut pattern you will likely want to make it a model pattern.
Once all of this is done you can apply the material to the element.
You may find it necessary to adjust the scale of the material, but you will need to see how it renders to be able to make that determination.
