Occasionally when checking Inventor assemblies into Vault, a 'Check In Error' message such as this pops up:
There are a number of possible causes for this message including links to missing image files and Inventor references that are not correctly updated. But another common cause is when a derived part's parent has been renamed or deleted that still has a link that Vault cannot resolve.
In Inventor, a derived part file is directly dependent upon the file from which it was derived if the link to that parent file has not been broken.
Whether that parent file is suppressed or not, Vault will check for the dependency to make sure the association link is valid before allowing the assembly to check in.
For example, here is an assembly that has a derived part noted by the red arrow:
The original component has been renamed from which that derived part came. Vault complained with a check in error message because of the missing parent file.
The solution is to open (or edit) the derived part that has lost its original component and right click on the instance in the Inventor Browser. Choose the highlighted option to 'Break Link With Base Component'. Note: Suppress Link with Base Component will not work!
Save and you can now Vault the Assembly.
Special thanks to John Hackney for the illustrated sample and confirmed solution.
